JoeSterankaJoe Steranka, CEO of the PGA of America, will step down from his position at the end of 2012.

Steranka, in his seventh year serving as CEO, announced his retirement April 11. A search committee will be formed and Steranka’s successor is expected to be in place by Dec. 31, his last day of acting CEO.

Rose Wins BMW Championship at Cog HillJustin Rose narrowly won the BMW Championship at Cog Hill in Chicago on Sunday, to capture his third victory on the PGA Tour.

Rose entered the week ranked 34th in the playoff race, jumped to number 3 and an opportunity to play at the Tour Championship next week in Atlanta.

gilyaneh20110822132341090The Barclays golf tournament, hosted this year by Plainfield Country Club in Edison, New Jersey, was shortened from 72 holes to 54 holes because of the ominous presence of Hurricane Irene. 

The Category 2 hurricane, with over 100 mph winds, is forecast to reach the New York area on Sunday. Aug. 28.
