After finishing the Australian Open in third place, Tiger Woods returned to the the top 50 ranked golfers in the world. Woods is now in 50th place, a scant 0.03 points ahead of Retief Goosen.
Woods' performance at the Australian Open, or at least during 3 of the 4 rounds, was arguably the best in the two years he has been without a win. He quite possibly could have won the tournament, had he not carried a score of 75 on his final round. Had Woods won the Australian Open, it would have been his first victory since the 2009 Australian Masters.
While Greg Chalmers and John Senden came out ahead of Woods at the Emirates-sponsored tournament, his final score of 277 for four rounds bumped him from 58th place to 50th in the world ranking of golfers. Woods, however, managed to finish ahead of Geoff Ogilvy, Nick Watney, Bubba Watson, and Fred Couples, among others.
